Sub means below, so what is the prefix for above? i don't mean above as in super/multi/max. I'm looking more for physically above.

for example, there is sub-terrain and then there is ____-terrain or sub-par or ___-par.

The Latin for "under" is "sub" and the Latin for "over" is "super", so, even though you didn't want "super" as the opposite of "sub", it is!

You could also use "sur" in some cases.

The two examples you gave would not have common examples for the opposite of "sub". Not all words with a prefix have a sensible commonly used opposite word with the same root word.

Another prefix for some words that means "above" or "beyond" is "meta." Examples are meta-analysis and metaphysics.

Super ... as in sub-script vs. super-script. The sub is below while the super is above. Also, sub-sonic vs. super-sonic. Thus 'super' is the opposite word for sub.

i know this was 5 years ago but in case any one is still curious i ve also used/read "supra-" as a prefix meaning above. ie. supraorbital (above the orbit) or supramolecular (which means above/beyond the limits of..)
