Question:
Free grammar checker?

Is there an app, website, anything that checks grammar? things such as where the comma should and shouldn't be, spelling, punctuation, all that. I'm mainly asking this because I've noticed sentences on Facebook pictures that are seemingly grammatically incorrect to me, but it happens so many times. It's making me think I'm the one who's incorrect. I'll give you an example. "The best time to wear a striped sweater, is all the time." I think there shouldn't be a comma in this sentence, but a lot of ppl put a comma in sentences like this and plenty of other sentences that have similar syntax. So, I have two questions; is there a free grammar checker, and does that sentence need a comma? Lol, thanks.

First, to the sentence. You are correct. There should be no comma anywhere in that sentence. Disregard Froggy's comment; he never met a comma he didn't use, generally incorrectly as in this case.

For a grammar checker, I don't know one that would help. MS Word is better than some I've seen, but it still is nowhere close to the level of a human with a good command of grammar. You seem to be ahead of most - you recognized there should be no comma in your sentence. I'd say trust yourself.

Your example would be better with a comma, but after ' is '.

"The best time to wear a striped sweater is, all the time."

However, these pictures are 'commented on' by people like yourself, or those with less education, so are not there to teach others grammar.

You may not be incorrect - but that doesn't mean that they ARE.

Apart from Word that can help correct, I'm not convinced that there are any web sites that can do what you want - you seem to be looking for something like Turnitin but for grammar rather than plagiarism.
