The most common modern version is:

Hickory Dickory Dock,

The mouse ran up the clock.

The clock struck one,

The mouse ran down!

Hickory Dickory Dock.

The earliest recorded version of the rhyme is in Tommy Thumb's Pretty Song Book, published in London about 1744, which uses the opening line: 'Hickere, Dickere Dock'. The next recorded version in Mother Goose's Melody (c. 1765), uses 'Dickery, Dickery Dock'.

This is a Mother Goose nursery rhyme. The words don't have to make perfect sense.

lol gurl...i checked the answers to your additional question and, boy, they were hilarious...it is dock, not duck...dock is a platform where ships and trucks are loaded and unloaded...it has other meanings too as it is also a verb..

Hickor dickory dock

The mouse ran up the clock!

And if you get the answer to why the mouse ran up the clock, then please also tell me why Pussy cat went to London...hahaha
