A paradigm is a common set of beliefs in a scientific community. It is basically a commonly held viewpoint of a certain subject.

To "subvert the dominant paradigm" means to not go along with the commonly held belief. To think outside the box. Trying to come up with other viewpoints.

Subvert the Dominant Paradigm

Now being young and naive (I’d never heard the word paradigm) and also having been thrown off by the poor hand writing the phrase had been written in I asked the question ‘Who is ‘Su-bert the dominant Para-dig-em (sic)?’

The eccentric housemate then explained that we live in a disposable society and we show total disregard for the environment etc. etc. The dominant paradigm is that we seem to put short gains before long-term losses. He believed that everything is connected and that all the **** we are doing to the environment is going to come back to bite us in the ****. I couldn’t agree more.

I later found out that the phrase is popular with activists in general and is used by those protesting against a range of issues from the destruction of the environment to unfair parking tickets.

Today I’d like to encourage you to subvert a paradigm that has been shitting me for ages. The paradigm I refer to is “It is better to remain silent and let people think you’re a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.” I find myself in a lot of situations where people hold back just because they are afraid of looking stupid. For example in classes when a teacher asks a question and nobody answers, or when at karaoke night people refuse to sing. I personally have no problem making a fool of myself as long as it is on my own terms (as opposed to someone playing a joke on me) and I find it a most liberating experience. I think the vast majority of the world is missing out by simply being cowardly mainstream idiots rather than daring renegade fools.

So next time you have a thought in your head you think people will laugh at and you bite your tongue-unbite it-and let loose with your stupid philosophies, designs for perpetual motion machines or your feelings for a pretty girl/boy. Embarrassment will pass but occasionally your reckless stupidity will pay off and the glory will last forever.

First off, daniel quinn's work was the biggest help to what i believe to be the true answer to this question. also im not here to spread some religion, to be comepletely honest what i'll tell you next makes more sense to me than christianity ever did and since you took time to formulate this good question i will give you a well thought out answer. first ill start off by going into what doesnt make sence the hominid (human category because far enought from primates) species has been around for 3 million years but judaism which lead to christianity has only come out about 4000 years ago. so what took God so long? human settlement (from nomad to agraculturalist) i believe was a crime against nature, there fore God. and has grow to a gargantuan level (almost 7bil humans with greater carbon footprints than ever/plant and animal species going extinct etc) I believe that's WHY god took so long to reveal himself... once we forgot how to live jesus had to come teach us. So i think the meek would be tribal humans.. nomads hunter gatherers. they live sustainably on the earth I wish i could give you the whole story but if that sounds interesting to you i urge you to either message me or pick up a copy of Daniel Quinn's Ishmael

To propose or campaign for a theory or an explanation that is not supported by the masses.

For example; when it was first proposed that the disease "rickets" was caused by a simple lack of calcium in the body, that theory flew in the face of conventional wisdom, so many of the educated did not believe it.

It was not until twenty years later that so much evidence accumulated to show that it was true, that the "educated" started to believe it.

My opinion: At the time that Jesus preached that in the Sermon on the mount series of sermons, "Blessed" meant "set aside for Heaven" It was also an idiomatic expression for "happy on your deathbed". The Catholic church recently admitted that "Blessed" meant set aside or set apart by God. To the Greek philosophers it meant "set aside for a good afterlife". I believe the Early Church quickly scrubbed that original meaning and even changed the original Greek meaning for it in the surviving Greek dictionaries (some dictionaries might indicate "archaic" . They (the early Paul following church) needed to do that in order to support Paul's interpretation of Jesus. Jesus gave us about 30 different ways of getting to Heaven. Paul gave us only one way;his way. But they could not scrub the philosophical and historical non religious books/scrolls written at the time. (My attic has a few books that quote those ancient writings that included the original meaning of the word "blessed', but I am too lazy to go up there. I have googled it but to no avail. Currently most Christian churches teach the meaning of "Blessed" means "happy" or "winning the lottery because God has favored you". Now for Meek. Meek is not weak, it originally meant gentle. Not just physically gentle but verbally and emotionally gentle. As Julius just indicated "humility" is an outward sign of meekness. I feel "Blessed are the meek" means that by being meek/gentle a person is "set aside for Heaven". I am a Sermon on the Mount Christian. I am suspicious of most other Bible verses. And the Holy Spirit visits me just fine. According to my religion anyone who cares about other people will be "set aside for Heaven". Why are people Meek? Why are people gentle? Why are people peaceful? ----- I suggest the reason is because they "care about other people"
