Question:
Which is correct, "dammit" or "damnit"?

I wrote damnit in a message to a friend, she proceeded to write back telling me that it's spelled d-a-m-m-i-t. I searched wikipedia and found that the correct way of spelling it is d-a-m-n-i-t. It seams logical to me that when you combine "damn" and "it" together, you get damnit, am I right?

You should tell your friend that he is a "dummass" and see if he gets the message (since that should be spelled "dumb ***"). "Damn it" it is.

Both are right. After all, it's just slang. Give it a few more years, and if there are enough people like your friend, it will soon change to dammit and damnit.

Personally, I think like your friend. I'm not from Africa so I can't be an African American. That would make black Africans who become American citizens, African African Americans. But I can't speak for everyone, so your best bet as a number of people have suggested is go with the term African American and when you get to know the person better, you can ask them their preference if you like. Just stay away from any word that can be misconstrued as a slur. As for Wendy1......what are you talking about? Your answer doesn't go with the question.

how ever you wanna spell it. If you do a google search for Damnit it says did you mean dammit. but not vice-versa.

The two words should be separate. When they are run together like that (reflecting people's actual enunciation or lack of same) it is a colloquialism. Just be careful not to damn any persons. You wouldn't like it if that happened to you, now, would you?

(What's a girl with a nice loking avatar like yours doing using such language, anyway...?)

If you are speaking in phonetics, it is dammit. If you are trying to say damn it, say damn it, not damnit.

Something like that works as long as it gets the message across. But something like "Yo, peeps, sup?' does NOT work for me in any context.

What about 'goddammit' as in "JHC Almighty, goddammit!"?

What does the "H" stand for?
