In the US, time zones are 1 hour apart.

If it's 6pm in California, it's 7pm in Denver (Mountain Time), 8pm in Chicago (Central Time) and 9pm in New York (Eastern Time).

As you go east, it gets later. The sun sets on the coast of Florida before it sets on California.

It's the earliest where you are in the united states... as you move the west.. it gets later and later. So 5pm for you would be 6pm for arizona... 7pm for texas.. and 9 for new york. It continues like that as you keep going west.

They're all here in this map, and colour-coded. The names of the zones (there are 24 of them) are listed along the bottom of the map: http://www.travel.com.hk/region/timezone.htm
