What does the phrase "Cats Game!" In tic-tac-toe mean and come from?

I was playing Tic-Tac-Toe with my little sister and the thought came to me when she said "Cats Game!" and drew a C over the little game. I have been saying that when I was younger. So did my Mom and Dad. Where did the saying come from and what does it mean? And why exactly do we call it "Cats Game"? Why not "Dogs Game" or "Rabbits Game"?

well i know in spanish the name is called "gato" = "cat"

and i heard its because the 4 lines form kind of a scratch mark or something like that but idk if it has anything to do with it...
