Abstract: it means to look at it at relative and or emphasizing to one spot, or up close. Sometimes it can also mean difficult to understand as in abstract questions or abstract art, in which no one knows really what something is.

Overview: well that is the general look over a situation, basically.

Both: Sometimes though abstract means a summary of document, speech or text, while overviews can be assigned as reviewing something in, as I would say, summary like grammar since they are trying to get something out in a general way.

In conclusion: Yes and no, depends, what you mean, overview and abstract are much same. Except abstract has much more meanings to it.

Is a generalization.

I asked for ideas for the party, but your idea is too abstract, can you be more specific than when you say "mellow"?

Oh, okay, I mean like a tropical theme, instead of a Las Vegas theme, because that's too wild!

Well, that's very specific.

Is a generalization. I asked for innovations for the social gathering, yet your thought is in simple terms too precis, are you able to be extra particular than once you're saying "mellow"? Oh, ok, I recommend like a tropical subject, extremely of a Las Vegas subject, on account it is too wild! nicely, it is very particular.

The 'big' picture. The crux's of the situation. The bottom line. It has nothing to do with abstract.
