I always greet everyone "Hiya! or Hiya there!" instead of "Hi!" my classmates and my bro saying that there's such no word like "Hiya!" is that true?

Hiya is an awful American slang word which has polluted the English speaking world. It is a contraction of the words 'hi' (rather than hello) and 'how are you'.

So, when you say 'hiya there!' you are actually saying 'Hi how are you there.' It sounds awkward. A basic rule for spoken English is, "If it sounds wrong it probably is."

Yes, there is such a word as "hiya," and it's used as a greeting when saying hello to someone.

It's legit, a combination of "hi" and "how are you."
