♥ I proof read people's papers all the time. It helps them become a better writer and recongize their mistakes. Proof reading is when someone reads your paper and tell you what they like or your spelling errors or how something can be better and so on lol.

What is proof-reading and who does it? Kindly throw some light on the various techniques used by a proof reader.

There were 8 mistakes or 'typos' as they are called in your question. This is proof-reading :-)

A proof-reader corrects grammatical as well as typographical error/s from a text wanting to be 'proof-read'. He checks for extra spacing between letters and words and also for paragraph indenting.

One common technique (for a short paragraph) is to read the text backwards.

Proof-reading is checking your or somebody else's written material for, typically, grammatical errors, but could also be factual errors. I would think all commercial publishers employ proof-readers (with the exception of newspapers) and proof-reading is part of the peer-review process of academic journals.

going over printed material to ensure there are no errors (in grammar, spelling, punctuation etc.) in my field it pays about a quarter a page or so. usually you get the material in soft copy and proof and return the proofed version with any questions.

often it is a work-at-home job but newspapers and magazines may have proofers that work at a jobsite. novels, websites and basically anything written needs to be proofread.

Proofreading is going over a written item meticulously to check for errors in spelling, grammar, and punctuation.

I took a couple of college classes in proofreading, and you just read over the item somewhat slowly, checking for errors. As you locate the errors, you make small notations (which are in themselves special marks), above the errors. After a while, I found I was able to breeze through quite quickly.

The downside is that now I find myself unable to read anything at all without proofreading it.

I hope this gives you the information you were looking for.

Good luck, and Happy Holidays.

Proofreading is something not done often enough! Reliance on spellcheck produces some interesting corrections. When I worked at a local newspaper, the editor believed it was not necessary to employ proofreaders. There was not one edition that was free of errors. Wouldn't you think a newspaper would be a shining example of correct grammar and spelling?

Proof reading is one type of reading in which we have to check the mistakes, omitted words, grammars, punctuation, spelling mistakes. We can find those errors by read loudly. Otherwise we can take the help of Editing and proofreading services, Professional proofreading services.

Proof originally refered to the first page off the press.

you check the proof for errors.

(omg; this is the pot calling the kettle black)

People who use im language and slang in their e-mails don't 'proof-read'. If there is an error in grammar or spelling you go back and correct it.

Proof readung is one done before making it to be displayed in public. A proof reader is the one who does the work.

A proof reader reds and corrects the info. by doing a complete scrutinisation over the data.

usually before anews is being read it is being read through by a proof reader.
