Grammar help :) Are these sentences correct?

Question

If I want to write a description for a photo, should I write:

1) "This is a photo of me." or "This is a photo of mine." ?

2) These sentences

"This is a photo of me with my mother and sister."
"I am the one in the middle."
"On the left is my friend." (should it be 'is' or 'was'?)
Are those sentences correct? Do I write them in present tense?

3) "This photo was taken at Sensoji, Tokyo, Japan." can I write like that, with 3 commas?
(as Sensoji is a temple in Tokyo, a city in Japan)

4) "The piano you see in the photo was my very first one." Is that correct?
Would "my first piano" sound better? Should I put 'very'?

The last one,
5) "My family owns a music school, so I grew up listening to a lot of classical music."
Did I use the correct of tense?

I separated them into numbers so they won't confuse you. XD

1) I think either can be correct, depending on the situation. If the picture really is of you, you can say "This is a photo of me [when I was 7]". Or, if you're showing your friends a photo you took, you can say "This is a photo of mine."

2) Those sentences are correct.

3) I guess to make it a little less awkward you can write "This photo was taken at the Sensoji temple in Tokyo, Japan"

4) "In this photo is my very first piano"?

5) Correct. If you wanted, I guess you could also change it to "My family has owned a music school since I was born [or something like that], so I grew up listening to a lot of classical music." But the sentence you wrote is fine, and might even be better.

1) It depends. The first sentence says that you are the person depicted in the photo. The second says that the photo belongs to you. If you are describing what is in the photo, use the first.



2) All correct. The present tense is more common, but you would likely be understood if you used the past. Using the past tense carries a slightly different connotation. It's used more when you are talking about the events that were occurring when the photo was taken, while the present tense is used when you are simply describing what is in the photo.



3) It would be better to say "This photo was taken at Sensoji Temple in Tokyo, Japan."



4) "Very" is used for emphasizing that it was indeed your first and that there were no others before it. It's not necessary, but I think its use in that sentence is fitting. "My very first one" and "my (very) first piano" are equivalent. Neither really sounds better.



5) Yes, the tenses are correct, as long as your family still owns the music school. If they no longer own it, then say "My family owned a music school..."

1)It depends on what you mean. If it's a picture of you, the first is correct. If it's just a picture you own, the second.



2)Present tense should be fine, as long as the pictures still exist.



3)Yes, but you might want to clarify that it is a temple within your sentence.



4)I would say "This is a photo of my first piano." (No very, one thing can't be more first than another.)



5)Sounds fine to me, assuming they still own the music school.
