What does it mean when someone that you've been dating for a short period texts you "I love you lol". The lol threw me off, plus the text came completely out of left field because we were not talking about anything of that nature.

Thanks for your replies!

He's trying to say he loves you but is severing the romantic ties it may hold without lol as to keep from getting hurt if you don't love him too, so in his world he's saying he loves you but the lol is there just to keep the statement from being all dead serious

if you clarify age and sex of texter, this will be a little easier to answer.

i disagree with eric. the lol could symbolize embarrassment or lack of confidence

the age changes everything for me.... i imagined a middle schooler, or high schooler...

i love you lol could translate to... haha you're so cute i love you, or something like that... but he could have been wanting to say and... and felt that it had to be said right then and there... tho... he should have said it the first time in person.

they could just mean something like "haha you're so funny. i love you." as if they just really enjoy talking to you. since it was out of no where then i doubt it was a romantic thing.

The "lol" usually nullifies any sort of romantic implication that the "I love you" may have previously had. Of course, if you're already dating the person, that nullification could be nullified...

It means they are getting creepy, but you will get sex.
