-demic doesn't mean that, it comes from the greek "demos" which means "of the people". "-demic" means "affects a lot of people". From this we get words like "epidemic" and "pandemic". It's not that the word actually means "bad", it's just that things that happen to large numbers of people all at once tend to be bad :P
